Ok here is the deal, I just had one of those moments where while reading the Bible the word just came alive to me. Over the next few post I want to share the revelation that God has given me. I am not saying that this is brand new revelation to the world but it is very real and new to me so I am excited about how this word applies to ME!!!
In 1 Samuel 14 we read where the Hebrews were in battle against the Philistines, in short they were out number and we also read in chapter 13 that they didn’t even have weapons and had to have there gardening tools sharpened into weapons for battle. To add to the problem, the odds were so bad that many in the Hebrew army were deserting and hiding from fear of being killed and defeated.
So here is where Jonathan son of Saul, flies into action, he puts a plan together in his mind that he is going to just walk over to the enemy with his armor bearer and defeat the enemy and as far as I am concerned his armor bearer is the real hero in this story because when asked to follow him into this almost certain death, here is what he says.
6And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.
7And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.
This is so incredible, against overwhelming odds, this un named armor bearer steps up and with total faith in his leader, actually builds and supports his faith. You see in the previous verse Jonathan said something that to me is very interesting,
6And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.
You see Jonathan lacked complete faith, I mean let’s face it the words, it may be, are not the type of words that great faith are built on. But something awesome happens when his armor bearer says I am with you, I believe God can and will do what your you are saying. The armor bearers faith actually helped to increase Jonathan’s faith and was one of the motivating factors that led to eventual defeat of the Philistines.
My question is are we dream fuelers or dream duelers? Do we help our pastor’s reach their dreams or do we lack the necessary faith and become a resistance to their vision. Sometimes our leaders have that “it may be” faith and need for us to build them up and say, no it can be and I am with you all the way!!!
great post…look forward to hearing more – translated, don’t wait so long to post again:)
