People with a higher calling

Philippians 3:14
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
I want to share some thoughts about servant leadership, and a little bit about who is a servant leader and what that means. First of all the word servant translated is the same word used for ministering, in the Greek the word is diakonia and very simply it means to serve or minister.
So who has been called to be a servant, well let’s see what God’s word says.
2 Corinthians 5:17-18
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation
So who did God give the “ministry” of reconciliation to, he gave it to “US” and the Bible doesn’t say that he gives it to the paid pastors, no he gave it to anyone who is in Christ. In other words if you are saved you have been given the ministry of reconciliation.
So what is the “ministry of reconcilation”, it simply means that God has given us the job of persauding others that they to can be reconciled to Christ. We are to share the good news that Christ died for our sins and that if you will beleive in Him, you can have forgiveness.
So it’s every ones responsibility to serve/minister and in reality when the paid minister/pastor are the only people who are handling that ministry responsibility then the church plateaus. In other words IT STOPS GROWING.
So we all must serve but not all of us are wired to be leaders, some people are what I like to call, high capacity, they are able to do several things at the same time very well. They are able to build teams, lead projects and motivate others to reach a common goal. They often are our pastors but as well they are lay ministers/servants with giftings and talents and they must be empowered to serve, they must become go to people within the church, especially if the church is to be truly effective.
I will share more in future blogs, but I am burdened some by the churches inability to raise up servant leaders, there is not a void of leaders, but there is a void of training and empowerment. There is a huge revival coming soon and we must begin to train up a group of servant leaders that are prepared for the harvest!
